Perfectly timed words of wisdom can come from the most unlikely of sources.

Below are some valuable nuggets of wisdom about goal getting which came from Father Time, two genetically enhanced laboratory mice, a powerful little green alien, a neurotic psychologist, a pipe smoking wizard, a motivational giant, a forgetful fish and a baseball player.

It’s all about goals. So, why exactly should we set goals?

Goals seem quite necessary if you want to get somewhere specific, become who or what do you want to become in life, or achieve the outcomes of your desires.

What is your strongest goal?

Have you thought about it yet? Let’s really think about it right now…

No, really. Please take only 30 seconds (if you can afford that) to think about what you want to improve in your life, and maybe the world around you.

What is the first thing that popped into your thought making dome?

Write it down.

Did several ideas swirl around your mind?

Great, make a goals list!

Now, make them SMARTER goals. Take a few minutes to rewrite them in more specific language, so that they are able to be measured, are attainable, relevant to your life and time sensitive. Evaluate your progress along your path and plan to give yourself an exciting reward upon arrival.

Next, take inventory of your resources; skills, tools, connections, books, energy and time.

What is our most precious resource?

Arguably, the answer is time.

What does Father Time have to say about this? Let’s listen.

“Tick, tock, tick, tock” ~ Father Time

Zooming out from the now, let’s just take a bird’s eye view of what a year made of.

1 year = 4 seasons

1 year = 12 months

1 year = 52 weeks

1 year = 365.25 days

1 year = 8,766 hours

1 year = 525,960 minutes

1 year = 31,557,600 seconds

That’s a lot of seconds.

We are in charge of how our time is spent, are we not?

Goal getters see every second as an opportunity.

Goal getters do what they can with what they’re given.

Goal getters also want to relax and take it easy, but we push ourselves.

How quickly do you want to achieve your goals?

You could take the same approach as Pinky and the Brain…

Pinky and the Brain

Pinky: “Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?”

Brain: “The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world!”

Today, will you simply stay in your patterned groove and do the same thing you do every day? Or will you suddenly change gears?

Will your focus and passion inspire others around you?

Will you be a memorable part in the history of the world? Will you start by changing your own life, or will you try to change others, or take over the world?

Don’t be afraid to THINK BIGGER!

If you’re thinking, “Okay, I guess I’ll try…”

Yoda, Star Wars

“No.

Try not.

Do… or do not.

There is no try.”

~Jedi Master Yoda

Dropping some wisdom on your butts, Yoda was!

Don’t get caught in the try trap!

There is no middle ground. With every decision, we are either working towards our desired outcome or we’re not.

It’s important to set your sights on a target that you genuinely feel passionate about absolutely hitting, achieving, creating.

Once set, simply don’t give up until you achieve it!

Take your goals list and add action items.

Make great big goals into small, easier to achieve steps. Turn your goals list into daily ‘To-do’ lists, and then check each steps off one by one.

Take baby steps towards success.

It helps to fan the flame of your burning desires with all of the tools at your disposal. Read books, research online, tell your friends and relatives what you’re working on, and don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Frodo and Gandalf, Lord of the Rings

In Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of The Ring, the wise old wizard Gandalf shared some precious words with Frodo.

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Real life is not a fantasy, but the reality is, we are free to spend our time as wisely as we wish.

Pandemic or not, we always have choices, every single second, about what we’ll do with our allotted time.

Use the Tony Robbins’ Ultimate Success Formula:

1. Know your desired outcome.

2. Take massive action to achieve the outcome.

3. Notice quickly whether the action is working.

4. Change the approach as required to attain the outcome.

In other words, inquire within to find what it is you want, set your target, create a plan, take action and a leap of faith, but if the plan fails, get back up, dust off your shoulders and try again, adjusting your approach until you succeed.

Dori, Finding Nemo

When the going gets rough, and it will, do as my friend Dori would do.

“Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!” ~ Dori

Remember, you must believe wholeheartedly in your vision of your future self. Crystallize a vision of your own Field of Dreams, and then take all of the necessary actions. If you build it, they will come.
